Cambridgeshire County Council elections and a Cambridge City Council
by-election for the Abbey Ward take place on Thursday 2 May. Cambridge
residents are encouraged to use their vote to decide who they would like
to represent them on local issues.

Antoinette Jackson, deputy returning officer for the local election
said: “It is important that people remember to come and vote in the
local elections. Councillors make important decisions about how your
council tax is spent and how local services are shaped. This is your
opportunity to decide who will best represent you and make those
decisions on your behalf.”

Everyone who registered and is eligible to vote will now have received
a poll card – although you do not need your poll card to vote.
Forty-three polling stations across the city will be open from 7am until
10pm, including two new polling stations:

● King’s Hedges division – Arbury Court Library, Arbury Road
CB4 2JQ (temporary replacement for Arbury Community Centre)
● Newnham division – The Pavilion, University Sports Ground,
Wilberforce Road

Your polling station is listed on your poll card and can also be found
on cambridge.gov.uk/elections or by phoning 01223 457048.

The count will take place from 10am on Friday 3 May, with the final
results expected by mid-afternoon. Official updates for the county
election will be available throughout the day on the county council’s
website, www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk.

Cambridge Reuse is a local charity that helps people on low incomes by recycling and refurbishing furniture and white goods then offering these at a low cost. As well as large furniture items, a range of small goods including paint, bedding and lamps is also available. The service operates six days a week from premises in Cherry Hinton and offers a collection service for donated goods and a delivery service for purchases items.

The next meeting of the West Central Area Committee will take place this Thursday, 25th April at 7pm at the Castle Street Methodist Church. Planning items begin at 7 pm and main agenda items begin no earlier than 7:30 pm.

There are two planning applications relevant to Market Ward this time – a proposed extension at 6 John Street and a contemporary town house between 3 and 4 Portugal Place.

There will also be representatives from the Police present for the quarterly Community Safety item. Priorities for the last quarter in our area will be reviewed and new ones agreed. If you have suggestions for this, please let us know.

The meeting will also include the regular Open Forum session, a report on schemes agreed in the autumn which are to be funded from developer contributions, and grant applications, including one from Christ’s Pieces Residents Association.

As many of you know, local elections will take place on Thursday 2 May 2013 to elect 14 of the 69 councillors who make up Cambridgeshire County Council.

If you wish to vote at these elections, you must be registered to vote by Wednesday 17 April.

If you are already registered to vote but are planning to be away from Cambridge on 2 May, you can apply to vote by post up to 5pm on Wednesday 17 April.

If you would like to appoint someone else to vote on your behalf you can apply to vote by proxy up to 5pm on Wednesday 24 April.
