The City Council this week rejected a planning application to turn the Fez Club into a block of flats.
Cllr Colin Rosenstiel said: “Both the uncompensated loss of the night club, a well established and well used entertainment facility, and the issue of introducing residential use into an environment that might jeopardise other entertainment uses are well set out in documents on the public planning file and amount to compelling reasons to refuse the present application.”
You can read more about the decision in the Cambridge News.
Many of you know that Sir Graham Bright was elected Police and Crime Commissioner for Cambridgeshire earlier this month.
At the suggestion of a resident, Cllr Andrea Reiner, as Chair, wrote to Sir Graham shortly after his election inviting him to attend our next Area Committee meeting on 10 January 2013. Andrea invited him to speak about his new role, what it will mean for Cambridge, his vision for police priorities in the city, and to take questions from members of the public.
We are hoping Sir Graham will accept our invitation.
As part of the £90m in funding that the County Council is making available through prudential borrowing over the next few years to fund road improvements, they propose to carry out some improvement works at the Catholic Church junction between Hills Road, Lensfield Road, Regent Street and Gonville Place (also sometimes referred to as Hyde Park Corner).
Cllr Sarah Whitebread recently met with the County Council signal works team and Cycling Officer to discuss the proposals. Overall, we think they represent a significant improvement at this difficult junction – particularly for pedestrians and cyclists. However, we would welcome input from residents on the detail of the proposals.
