New Post Box Opened

Cllr Tim Bick tries out the brand new external post box in the St Andrews Street Post Office for which he has campaigned over the past year, watched by Manager of the branch Andy Welsh. Other improvements also just completed are an automatic sliding entrance door and reduction in size of the interview room to maximise general internal floor space.

Maid’s Causeway 20mph

Cllr Sarah Whitebread has secured £7,000 in funding to improve the signage of the 20mph limit along Maids Causeway and Newmarket Road.
The details of the scheme will be worked up by the city council, councillors and residents over the summer, but are likely to include roundels along the carriageway and larger signs.
Sarah said, “It has taken a long time but I am pleased this funding is now in place. I hope the work will start before the end of the summer. The most important thing is that the police recognise the new signage is adequate and agree to enforce the 20mph limit.”

Anyone for tennis?

Cllrs Andrea Reiner and Colin Rosenstiel joined the Mayor in opening new tennis courts on Jesus Green on Tuesday 26 June. The £115,000 project was funded by money that the Lib Dem-run City Council has extracted from property developers in Cambridge.
Students from Park Street Primary School were the first to play on the new hard courts, which were resurfaced and expanded from 2 to 4 courts. There are also 2 grass courts on Jesus Green.
“Tennis is a great sport,” said Cllr Reiner, a keen tennis player herself. “Hopefully the new courts will encourage players of all skill levels to pick up a racquet.”

Whippet Coach services in Emmanuel Road

Many residents have complained about the Whippet Coach service to Long Road which has been stopping on Emmanuel Road. The coach was stopping near to the mini roundabout with Parker Street, obstructing the view of people turning.
Cllr Sarah Whitebread met with a representative from Whippet several weeks ago, and arrangements have now been made for the coach to stop in Drummer street from next term.
Sarah said, “It has taken a long time to get this sorted out, but at least when term starts again in September the coaches will be stopping safely in Drummer Street. Thanks to the residents who have been in touch with me about this.”
