Tim Bick gets things done for residents in Market ward

Tim Bick has stepped in to protect the private parking for residents at Evening Court.

The spaces were getting occupied by prospective buyers of the huge Riverside development next door on Newmarket Road. Tim pushed the developers to install lockable bollards for those residents who requested them.

The developers are also consulting about a way of screening the last and most sensitive stage of their construction, which is closest to Evening Court.

Salmon Lane trees

Cllr Tim Bick worked with residents on this novel way of bringing trees safely back to Salmon Lane after their removal 7 years ago when soil desiccation was found to be damaging the Grafton West car park.

Tim’s campaign successes

  • A food shop in the Kite – now there are several!
  • More mobility crossings – funded by the City Council
  • Initiating the Council’s current major tree planting programme
  • Improvements to the cramped St Andrews Street Post Office
  • Refurbishment of Fitzroy and Burleigh Streets, now almost complete
  • Fending off a new bus station on Christ’s Pieces
  • New tennis courts and skateboard park on Jesus Green (with renewal of the children’s playground coming soon)
  • A citizens advice kiosk shortly to be installed in the Grafton Centre

Tim Bick has been a Liberal Democrat City Councillor for the last four years, and is seeking re-election to the City Council on May 3rd. Tim has been effective in campaigning for community amenities, championing our open spaces and fighting to protect the character of our area. The brick walls he has met are often from the Conservative County Council.

Trying to save the City Centre Shuttle

Tim fought to save the city centre shuttle bus but the local campaign was ignored and the Tories closed it regardless. The Conservative County Council ignored our calls for effective signs for the 20mph limit. They showed no interest in making pavement adaptations for disabled people – and yet they are the highway authority!

Working with the Police

Tim has forged a productive relationship with the Police. He has highlighted priorities for their attention and he has using the Council’s ability to bring different agencies together to address underlying issues, such as the rehabilitation of homeless people.

Campaigning to keep the City Centre special

He has worked hard on planning challenges at Riverside, the Old Maltings and the Varsity Hotel, on the first two securing big improvements.
