The fight for heritage lighting continues

Column in Victoria St with incorrect removal sign

Jumping the gun

Colin Rosenstiel twice had to write to the County Council in the last week because Balfour Beatty started work planning to remove cast iron columns in Fair Street and Victoria Street despite agreeing to put such work on hold while ways of preserving them are investigated.
It seems that only through constant vigilance can this dysfunctional PFI deal be kept on track.
Please contact councillors if you are in other streets and are similarly affected.
Sadly your councillors have had to conclude that main road lights like those in Maid’s Causeway that were converted from gas lights can’t be preserved. Examples have been given to the Cheddars Lane Technology Museum at Colin’s request, though.

Lights at Hyde Park Corner at last

Colin Rosenstiel has been pressing since October to get the street lights replaced at the Catholic Church junction. They were taken away at the start of the improvement works many months ago. He was told last Tuesday that the new lighting was still being designed so he insisted the junction was dangerous and temporary lights must be installed. They arrived on Friday, 6th DecemberHydePkCnrLight3

Jesus Green Play area

It has been great to see children across the area — and beyond — swinging from the fantastic new play equipment in Jesus Green. We’ve been pleased with the positive feedback, though many have noted the need for cycle racks, additional bins and also many have asked that City Council replace the bench that was previously sited in the toddler area.

We’re happy to say that City Council has installed additional bins and returned the bench to the play area. The bike racks will go in next week.
