Free cycle stands for Cambridge organisations

The ParkThatBike project has been launched to improve cycle parking in Cambridge.  They are offering local voluntary sector groups, charities, social enterprises and small businesses up to two high quality cycle stands free of charge.  Each stand holds two bikes neatly and securely.

Businesses, community groups, shops, pubs, offices, surgeries or churches are encouraged to apply for free stands.

The stands are available on a first-come, first-served basis during 2010. The stands are free of charge, but recipients must install them, on their own premises, in a location that we have checked and approved.

Applications and further forms can be downloaded from the ParkThatBike website http://www.parkthatbike.com/freeStands.cfm or phone 01594 564 344 and they will mail you paper copies.

Work starts on new skate board park on Jesus Green

Work has commenced on the new £65,000 skate board park on Jesus Green. The design has been reached following extenisve consultation with users of the existing skate board park and local resident groups. The project is being funded by developer contributions.

Cllr Rod Cantrill, Executive Councillor for Arts, Sport and Public Places commented “the project is a great illustration of the City Council’s committed to providing facilities for the young people of the city”.

Samaritans parking space on Clarendon Street

The Samaritans have a reserved parking space on Clarendon Street outside their Cambridge office.  Recently the markings on the road have become worn, and with parking in this part of the city in such high demand, other cars have started to use the space.

Cllr Sarah Whitebread has contacted the County Council parking enforcement team about this issue and asked for the carriageway markings to be repainted.  We will update this blog when a timescale for the work is known.

Lower Park Street Bollards replaced

The bollards outside the Maypole pub have been replaced recently after a request from County Councillor Sarah Whitebread.

Several residents contacted both Sarah and City Councillor Andrea Reiner about the old bollards, which were broken and easily removable.  Car drivers were removing the bollards to access the Park Street area as a rat run.

Sarah commented “I’m grateful to the County Highways team for such a quick turnaround.  The new bollards are much more secure and look a lot smarter.”
